Micah 6:8

“And what does the Lord require of you?  To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

Concord United in Missions

Concord United Methodist Church has long been a mission minded church. We work to involve all ages from the youngest to the oldest in serving our neighbors locally, nationally and internationally.  We try to plant the seeds for children, youth and adults to have a heart for serving others.

We are called to be Christ’s hands, feet and heart here in our community, walking with our neighbors who need a helping hand. Please consider joining us for a future opportunity to serve others. Below are some upcoming opportunities.

Food Pantry

If you or someone you know needs food from the pantry, invite them to come to the drive through pantry at Faith Lutheran Church (225 Jamestown Blvd) and bring a photo ID. The pantry is open on the 1st and 3rd Mondays. All are welcome!

We will continue to have the silver racks outside the Worship Center under the porte cochere (covered drive) so you can leave food donations at your convenience. Thanks for helping us help those in need!

Email Jane Currin, for more info.

Community Garden

Most of the food grown in the gardens located to the west of the church parking lots,  goes to food pantries and feeding ministries.  You can also “adopt” a portion and contribute 10% and keep the rest.

“Garden Parties” are held each Monday and Saturday mornings, 9-noon, and Thursday evenings, 4:30 til dusk, when anyone can show up to help work the garden. If you have questions, email Mike Smith.

Donation Thursday

Missions is sponsoring Donation Thursdays, each week from 5 – 7 pm, bring your items to the West Parking Lot Shed for safe drop off.  We will donate your household items to Morgan-Scott and Elk Garden School Community Ministry as the shed fills up We are accepting items such as: clothing, shoes, kitchen items, toys, games, children’s items, area rugs, carpet remnants, tools, pots, pans, china, glassware, silverware, bedding, blankets, pillows, artwork, lamps, etc.  Please don’t bring TV’s or electronics.

Contact Jane Currin to arrange drop off or pickup of large furniture or mattresses or box springs.

**Disclaimer to be packed in bag with each mask:

This mask will not prevent users from getting the Covid-19 virus.

Care Instructions: Sanitize by putting the mask in the dryer on high heat.

Please launder in hot water or boil mask for 5 minutes.  Let dry completely before wearing.

Facemask Project

We are seeking sewers to make fabric face masks for emerging community needs. We recognize these will not prevent users from getting the Covid-19 virus, but for persons in our community who must continue working, it may help them to keep from touching their face, etc.

We have cotton fabric at church.  If you need some, let Jane Currin (jcurrin@concordumc.com) know, and we will arrange to get it to you.  Please consider replacing the elastic, with 18” ties in each corner. The ties may be made from the same fabric as the mask.

When you have finished your mask, you may drop them off in the marked tub at the East covered drive on the Food Pantry shelves or at Farragut Pharmacy from 9-5:30, call 966-9728 and they will come to your car to get the masks.

TLC/Mission Meals

Weekly on Wednesday and Thursday our Concord United Kitchen is being used to prepare and then send out over 100 meals.  These meals started as our TLC – Tender Love Care meals for our senior church members who needed a visit each week and the meal, a bonus.   The food was packed up following Wednesday night dinner and then teams delivered and visited each Thursday.

When the COVID-19 pandemic started there were no more Wednesday night dinners, but we needed to continue making meals for our senior adults and wanted to reach out to others in the community that needed meals.  We added the seniors from Wesley House Community Center, best known as “the Grannies”, some families that we had been helping and a few others that we found that needed a helping hand.  The list changes as needs change.  We had to deliver the meals in a “Safe” manner.  We asked for volunteers willing to deliver practicing safe distant contact.  We had a great response from families and individuals volunteering to serve.

Most weeks we sent out 14 teams that each deliver to 3 – 5 homes. They rotate weeks but return to the same homes, so they know their people and even though they must visit across the yard they have built relationships and have been sharing community during the last 4 months.

If you would like to participate in the delivery of these meals, please contact us at missions@concordumc.com

CANNING JAR COLLECTION

Do you have any mason jars, (standard canning jars of all sizes) sitting around? We could use them. We could especially use rings and lids to make our delicious apple butter and apple sauce. We will take used rings but need new lids. If you can donate any, please leave them on the silver racks under the drive thru. Help us reduce, reuse and recycle.

Local Home Repairs

Sometimes families have damage to their home or have needs that they can’t fix or do themselves.  We need individuals with handy skills, trucks, trailers, or just a willingness to learn and help with these repairs/builds.  If you would like to be a part of this group, please click the button below and let us know you can lend a hand!
